Learning Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray key) is the Japanese art of healing with the hands.
Reiki practitioners use the universal life force energy of Reiki that is all around us, they are able to transmit or pass this energy on, by simply placing their hands on the body.
Reiki originated in Japan at the turn of the 20th Century. The founder Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926) developed this method of hands on healing in 1922 following his retreat on Mt Kurama in Kyoto, Japan. The original term being
心身改善臼井靈氣療法 = Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho
or
“Usui Reiki Treatment Method for Improvement of Body and Mind”.
Reiki stimulates and accelerates our natural healing process in a positive way; it works on the mind, body and spiritual levels to bring balance and harmony for our achievable wellbeing.
Mikao Usui Sensei’s words, obviously translated into English…
“Usui Reiki Ryoho is an unprecedented treatment method and I believe it should be made accessible to everyone so that anyone can benefit from the divine blessing and happiness it brings. This Reiki Ryoho is a unique treatment deriving from the spiritual energy in the Universe which will help people improve their physical wellbeing and, in turn, will being peace of mind and happiness in life“
Jikiden can be translated as “directly taught” or “directly passed down” So Jikiden Reiki is…
Reiki that was founded by Mikao Usui in 1922 and taught to Chujiro Hayashi in 1925 … A medical doctor and one of the original 20 teachers/Shihans that Usui Sensei created in his lifetime.
By Chujiro Hayashi to Chiyoko Yamaguchi in 1938 … When she was just 17 years old as a wedding present and who practiced daily throughout her life and went on to raise her 4 children using only the natural healing methods of Reiki.
By Chiyoko Yamaguchi to her son Tadao Yamaguchi … Who started giving Reiki treatments with his mother at the age of 15 and now share this knowledge with the world through the Jikiden Reiki Institute/Kenkyukai.
Jikiden Reiki is Reiki with its original Japanese spiritual and cultural core intact, without anything added or left out… for whatever reason: Reiki teachings which have no Western influences…
“This is what I have learnt from Tadao Yamaguchi and now share with you. Authentic Japanese Reiki that is Pure and Simple … safe and Effective.” Debbie-Ann Champion
Yes, you can! Everyone can learn Jikiden Reiki … if they want to, you do not have to have any special skills. Authentic Japanese Reiki is simple “to do” and Jikiden Reiki is refreshingly simple to learn…
The ability to transmit Reiki happens during Reiju. Reiju is a short ceremony that is performed person to person, in other words directly to you by a Shihan (Teacher) or Shihan-kaku (Assistant Teacher). Receiving Reiju activates and opens up the dormant abilities of a person and then you can channel/ transmit Reiki… to heal yourself and other people.
“Jikiden” can be translated as “directly taught or directly passed down”… The original methods and teachings of Mikao Usui that were passed to Chujiro Hayashi and to the Yamaguchi family.
Having studied for several years with Sensei Tadao Yamaguchi, Head of the Jikiden Reiki Institute, both in the UK and in Japan, Debbie-Ann Champion is a fully qualified and registered Jikiden Reiki Shihan/Teacher … and happy to teach you this wonderful healing art.
Learning Jikiden Reiki you will discover Reiki in its Original Simplicity… Natural Healing for Achievable WellBeing
If you would like to know more about the system of Reiki; having a treatment session or about learning Jikiden Reiki so that you too can transmit/channel Reiki, please contact me.
The Gokai are the five principles for inviting happiness, that were created by the founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui Sensei
- Japanese – English
- KYO DAKE WA – Just for today
- IKARUNA – Do not be angry
- SHIN PAI SUNA – Do not worry
- KAN SHA SHITE – Be grateful
- GYO O HAGEME – Do your duties fully
- HITO NI SHINSETSU NI – Be kind to others
Usui Sensei realised that our emotional state of mind has a direct effect on our physical body… That mental unrest leads to physical unrest or diss-ease, and that physical disease can lead to mental unrest. A body "without ease" is how the Greeks came up with the word "disease".
Usui Sensei created the Gokai after some of the people who had been healed with Reiki, would sometimes return for more treatments… often for the same reason. He realised people needed to be helped to change the way they think!
Traditionally Reiki practitioners regarded these five principles as their basic philosophy of life for healthy mind and body… Spiritual growth can be measured by how well one manages to incorporate these simple words, into ones daily life.
Today, Jikiden Reiki practitioners continue to chant the Gokai in Japanese, morning and evening with Gassho style hands, just as Mikao Ususi Sensei taught. Why we do this and the wisdom behind these words, are discussed further at the Shoden level Seminar or training course.
Gassho = hands together prayer style… with palm and fingers, lightly touching
We hold them at the heart level with fingertips facing up, though not forced against the chest… so as not to create tension in the shoulders and as we breathe out, we can feel our out breath on the finger tips.
The technique of Gassho meditation is taught at the Shoden level course or seminar.
Reiju is a short ceremony that is performed person to person; that is by a Shihan/teacher to the Learner.
Receiving Reiju activates and opens the dormant abilities of a person who can then transmit/channel Reiki. Following Reiju you only need to place your hands on the body and Reiki will flow, so that you can treat yourself and others…
The technique we follow at Jikiden Reiki is the one passed down and unchanged, from the one developed by Usui Sensei.
Byosen is an accumulation of toxins, which disturbs the natural flow of fluid (blood, lymph etc.) and energy within the body… a blockage that can lead to stagnation in muscles and organs of the body. Today, we are so busy we often ignore stiff shoulders and aching joints, but they are the early signs of illness… and when left untreated this could lead to disease in the major organs of the body.
During a Jikiden Reiki treatment, practitioners prioritise where the body requires Reiki and hands go where they sense the Byosen. It was a word created by the founder Mikao Usui.
There are no “set hand positions” or sequences to follow… Jikiden Reiki practitioners focus Reiki in the areas that have the highest levels of Byosen. Paying attention to how these sensations change over time, we can estimate the number of treatments required and the frequency of sessions that are needed to restore health and harmony… for your health and achievable wellbeing.
Following Reiju, you will be able to feel different sensations in your hands when you lay them on a part of the body that has Byosen.
During the Shoden level training course or seminar, you will learn about sensing Byosen and what the different levels indicate and how to effectively release these toxins when treating yourself and others, with Reiki.
Shirushi is Japanese for the word symbol.
You will learn how and when to use the Reiki symbols that Usui Sensei devised, when you learn Jikiden Reiki at both Shoden and Okuden levels.
The full name being Ketsueki Kokan Ho is shortened to Kekko… even in Japan!
It is usually done at the end of a Reiki treatment session and is wonderful for rejuvenating the recipients whole being!
It can best be described as a sort of light massage; it is a traditional Reiki technique that stimulates all the circulatory systems in the body and it really helps with releasing toxins/Byosen as well as physical tension…
Many tell me how energised they feel following a Kekko massage… its as if the “weight” they had been carrying around, just slipped away.
Everyone enjoys giving and receiving Kekko during the Jikiden Reiki Shoden level training!
Sensei = Respected Teacher, in Japan. It is a term bestowed on a teacher, from their students… it is not a title a teacher would refer to themselves by, it is used as a sign of respect.
In daily life it also describes someone who is teaching their art to their students… be they a doctor, a dancer, a potter or any skilled person in Japan. The word for student = Seito; the one who is following in life… So the teacher is passing down their skills and way of life to their student… the next generation.
The family name is used first in Japan, which is common throughout Asia. So we should say Usui Mikao and Hayashi Chujiro … which then becomes Usui Sensei and Hayashi Sensei, this was how students in Japan would traditionally address their teachers when speaking to them, or when mentioning them to someone else.
To help us distinguish between which Yamaguchi Sensei we are talking about, we say Chiyoko Sensei and Tadao Sensei … When you come to the seminars you will understand this better… We Jikiden Reiki practitioners do this with love and affection, and because we respect the great knowledge they have chosen to share with us, knowledge which so many people thought had been lost!
Treatments
A Jikiden Reiki session lasts from 60 to 90 minutes
Firstly we talk about your health and lifestyle and why you would like some Reiki healing. Debbie-Ann makes a note of your medical history and any medication you are taking... All details are held in the strictest confidence.
Lying or sitting, you remain fully dressed... with hands placed gently on your body.
You will be asked to remove your shoes and lie on a treatment couch, with pillows and blankets placed for your support and comfort. It's a good idea to wear something comfortable, that's not too tight around the neck or waist so you can relax...
The session starts hands are place on your head for quite a while and then on your feet… this produces a flow of Reiki throughout your body.
A Jikiden Reiki session induces a state of deep relaxation in mind & body, creating a calm breathing space...
There are no “Set hand positions” or sequences to follow… my hands are placed where the Byosen (toxin) levels are highest, to focus Reiki where it is needed most, interpreting the sensations felt in the hands... to get fast and effective results. To help speed up the release of toxins settled in muscles and joints… Debbie-Ann may gently squeeze, rub or pat areas of your body; naturally after talking about this with your first.
Occasionally, deeply held emotions may rise up, or physical symptoms may briefly feel worse, but this is a sign of the healing process is really working and then things really improve...
The session ends with a short Kekko… which can best be described as a light massage; it’s a traditional Reiki technique that stimulates your blood and lymphatic circulation, to speedily eliminate those toxins from the body and completes the restorative work. It only takes a few minutes… but it is a great way to end your session… along with a drink of water and if you wish, we can discuss your session and plan a course of treatments.
There is also a technique which works directly on the mind, a traditional method created by Usui Sensei.
An effective treatment for working on these emotional issues is Seiheki Chiryo... it can help get to the heart of the situation and without having to go into lengthy discussion. It has also been used for deep-rooted traumatic experiences… It can also help where addiction and unwanted fears and phobias are holding people back... helping the person to break the cycle and move on in life.
This treatment method can be also used by people who would like to treat themselves, who do not want to even discuss the situation with anyone else… It is taught at the Okuden Level of Jikiden Reiki
Reiki has been shown to stimulate and accelerate the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It balances the flow of Ki (Life-force energy) within the body so that it flows freely. It is when our life-force energy is blocked that diss-ease or disease occurs in our mind and/or body.
Mikao Usui said “Reiki is successful in treating all kinds of illness, both psychological and physical.”
Well… EVERYONE…
Reiki is a simple, yet profound system of holistic healing that is non-denominational, people of all faiths around the world can and do use Reiki. It is safe, gentle and non-invasive having only positive results. The techniques of Jikiden Reiki are highly effective at treating many long-standing health concerns… as well as acute conditions.
Most people find Jikiden Reiki treatments deeply relaxing… but Reiki is also great for maintaining good health or when you just feel in need of a health boost… So you can take life in your stride!
Everyones experience of Reiki is unique.
You may feel a variety of sensations as the Reiki flows, the most common of which is a sense of heat. You may also experience tingling, or cool sensations, or you may not feel anything at the time… there are no right or wrong sensations or feelings to experience… everyone is different. Sometimes people see and feel their body gently moving or twitching, as the body naturally readjusts itself.
Most people find Reiki profoundly relaxing and some fall asleep… this feeling of deep inner clam often lasting long after the session is over
Many tell me how energised they feel following a Kekko massage… its as if all the “weight” they had been carrying around, just slipped away.
Reiki will flow to where it is needed in just the right amounts, it is working to bring balance and harmony from within, for your Achievable wellBeing.
As each person is unique, what is experienced during a Reiki session is hard to put into words… Some feel a deep sense of calm while others feel full of zing!! Many people say they feel different… often referring to it as an enhanced sense of wellbeing. Many tell me afterwards they feel Lighter… Refreshed … as if they have let go of a heavy bag. Most sleep really well following a session.
For some, they are amazed at how they can move freely again, without pain…
With some long-standing issues, this can take a few sessions and by noticing gradual improvements, you can see how your body is naturally restoring health and wellbeing.
Occasionally, deeply held emotions may rise up. or physical symptoms may briefly feel they are getting worse... but this is a sign of the healing process is really working... Our body has got used to this diseased state, sometimes it has locked these toxins away... so they need to surface before being released... and then things really improve.
Paying attention to such progress can help with motivating you to continue with a full course of Reiki treatments. For chronic or serious health conditions this may well take more than 4 treatment sessions. Sometimes longstanding conditions may take even more sessions... where you are prepared to allow Debbie-Ann Champion to make a case study, then these Reiki treatments can be arranged at a mutually acceptable rate…
At the end of your Jikiden Reiki session, you will be offered a glass of water. There is usually time for you to ask any questions and we can talk about your session if you wish…
No, None… Reiki is completely Safe.
